The Illawarra Flame House
The Illawarra Flame House was designed and built at UOW as part of the Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition. Team UOW and the Flame House won the competition held in Datong, China - scoring the highest marks ever recorded in a Solar Decathlon competition!
A testbed for sodium-ion technology
After winning the Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition, Team UOW brought the Illawarra Flame House back to the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus to serve as a living laboratory and an integral part of UOW's accomodation stock.
The Flame House has solar PV and an energy management system integrated into the overall building management system. We'll be testing our first S4 Project-manufactured 5 kWh sodium-ion module at the Illawarra Flame House in early 2019, putting it through it's paces before moving on to the final demonstation at the Bondi sewage Pumping Station.
